CHAPTER 9: TUESDAY, OCTOBER 28th

“No way. Nothing in the world
would make me happier. We've been going
together for what, eight years? I can't
see any downside to this.”
“Halloween will be our Ninth Anni-
versary.”
That's right, I thought, and
wolfed down another fucking delicious
meal. Beth was right, and I might be
biased, but this was the best meal in
the world.
“Babe, how can you top yourself
like this every night?” I said and
shoveled another spoonful into my
mouth.
She laughed, and we spent the rest
of the meal talking about those nine
years, and that worked its way around
to deciding on a day.
I wanted to do it right now, but
she wanted to wait until Spring, and
like I had any say in the matter, we
finally decided she was right.
I really didn’t put up much of an
argument, because I was too busy
shoveling food into my mouth.
“What is this?” I finally asked.
“Chicken Cordon Bleu and my
special sauce.”
Her special sauce was to die for,
and I told her that, but like usual,
she disagreed.
“Die for?” she said, and then
laughed, “This’ll bring you back to
life.”
“How would that even work?” I
asked and took four big bites.
She went on and on about just how
horrible a job it’d be, ending with,
“Of course, the salted crackers are
optional.”
“I don’t think that would work at
all, even with the salted crackers,” I
countered, and then asked, “Why do you
have to put toilet paper up your butt
again?”
“I never said I had to put toilet
paper up my butt,” she laughed, and
that got us going round and round again
until our Halloween Patrol.
What we did after that is none of
your damn business.
